Our collaborations enhance our research output. As such, we are open to work together with like-minded individuals, organizations or institutions who share our vision. Collaboration outcomes may lead to published research papers, conference presentations, patents, technical papers, books or book chapters.

We have the facilities to work with both internal collaborators (units or departments within the University of Ghana) and external collaborators - research focused organizations outside the University of Ghana such as:

  • Research institutes
  • Universities
  • Research Laboratories
  • R&D units of commercial companies where the study is not for direct commercial purposes

Our collaborations are mainly focused on

  1. Academic research
  2. Student research
  3. Industry application

ACADEMIC RESEARCH

The sensory lab has the capacity to collaborate with non-student researchers who want to carry out sensory based projects. These projects are typically initiated by a principal investigator and would be part of a funded project. Visit our publications page to see some of our existing collaborative projects.

STUDENT RESEARCH

Collaborations can be forged with postgraduate students within UG or other universities around the globe. Student collaborations allow post graduate students to have access to our state-of-the-art facilities, testing expertise or consultation to carry out the sensory related component of their work. PhD students may also complete their experiential learning projects with us under this type of collaboration. Students are expected to submit a technical report to the lab for experiential learning. We also encourage and support student collaborators to publish their work in collaboration with us. Some student collaborations:

  • Emoji Project – PhD research project with Kansas State University
  • Solar Dried Tomato Project – PhD research project with KNUST
  • FTTP Fish Smoker Project – PhD research project with Wagenegin/UG
  • Time intensity testing of frozen dessert – PhD - Experiential learning project from UG

INDUSTRY RESEARCH

The sensory lab collaborates with the research and development section of food and beverage industries to carry out not for profit research projects that have industrial applications. These are usually industry funded and may have commercial viability or answer pertinent industry questions. These projects are different to commercial testing service provided to industry. The outcome of industry research projects may be the development of product prototypes (Click here for more information on our product development services ), technical know-how, new methods, or guidelines. Recently completed projects include:

  • Developing a peanut milk for LeoLait company
  • Developing protocols for sensory testing of frozen products – Danone Funded study
